A skin biopsy removes cells or sample skin from your body. Doctors perform biopsies to examine the tissue to rule out certain skin conditions and diseases. Depending on where the affected area is, you may be asked to undress and change into a clean gown. You’ll receive a local anesthetic to numb the biopsy site. Depending on the biopsy method, stitches may be required following the surgery. The biopsy site will bleed, but should stop soon after the extraction. If bleeding continues, apply pressure to the site for 10-20 minutes. Contact us if the bleeding doesn’t stop after applying pressure.
